What is DPI and why does it matter for images?
DPI stands for "Dots Per Inch". It tells printers and image software how many dots of ink to place per linear inch of paper. A 3000×2400 pixel image set at 300 DPI will print at 10×8 inches with razor-sharp clarity. At 72 DPI, that same image would instruct a printer to print at over 41×33 inches with lower dot density.
Does changing DPI change the resolution or file size of my image?
In default Lossless Metadata Mode, no pixel data is resampled or changed. A 1920×1080 image remains exactly 1920×1080 pixels, and file size changes by only a few bytes where the header metadata was updated. It alters how image software calculates the physical print dimensions.
Why does my portal reject my photo and require 300 DPI?
Many automated visa systems, passport upload forms, universities, and publishing portals (like Amazon KDP) run automated header checks on uploaded photos.
